Moving Along Empty
PostSubject: Moving Along   Moving Along EmptyMon Apr 04, 2016 10:10 am

Aspen slid across the ice silently, digits leaving behind small scrapes in the surface layer. Her radiant seafoam orbs scanned the barren tundra, hoping that she could find one of her own kind. However, just as she expected, no wolf happened to be in her sight or scent range. Her pelt had turned a ghostly white from the sheet of heavy snow that had fallen onto her back. The female stopped often to shake it off, but it had just formed again in a few minutes. Aspen could tell that there was going to be a blizzard sweeping through the empire because of the way the heavy snow was beginning to fall. The wind had picked up speed as well, she was rather glad that Tilikum lake had large mountain formations to block the majority of it.
She paused, seeing that she was growing rather close to the Oak Pack border. If the rumors were true, all of the wolves had been wiped out of that territory from a disease affecting the prey. A blast of wind nearly blew her over, since she was weakened from the amount of traveling that had been done. Aspen quickly hurried on, paws meeting contact with the land on the edge of the frozen lake. The fae headed towards the border of the pack lands, seeing that a few large boulders jutted out, allowing her to have a shelter for the night. She crawled into an opening, letting out a sigh. 'I wonder if there are any wolves that still wander inside of the territory...' She thought to herself before curling up in a ball, looking out the entrance as her mind wandered.

Duke stop outside the border to his domain. The alpha stood tall with his tail lowered, his ears perked forward on top of his skull. Nothing out of the norm, well to him at least. The shadows seem to stop harassing him as well. Snorting softly, Duke pressed his snout against the snow filled ground. He could smell all the critters passing through, nothing that seem to alarm Duke. Shaking his head to get rid of the small snow flurries on his nose. He paused and narrowed his eyes. There in the snow were paw prints, canine prints to be more exact.

Duke immediately reacted. He wasn't sure if it was ghost or not. Frankly he didn't give a damn. The fur on the back of his neck rose, and a low warning growl escape his throat. He was in no mood to deal with the things in his past. Duke step forward following the paw prints leading to a small rock formation. Taking the fist step, Duke leaped on top of the small shelter looking down at the entrance. His fangs bared, signalling whatever it was to come out. He took on a dominant stance, ready to fight back his insanity.

Aspen's peaceful rest was interrupted by the snarls of another wolf. She reacted quickly, leaping to her feet and flattening her ears to her skull so if the wolf were to lunge at her, it wouldn't rip them off.  With her hackles raised and fangs bared, she darted out of the entrance, turning quickly to face her attacker.
Aspen wasn't in the mood to get into a spar. All she had wanted was to get some rest for her early departure in the morning. Her radiant seafoam lamps stared down the stranger wolf, wondering what move it was going to make.

Duke paused in his aggressive assault. The larger male expected a ghostly figure, not what greeted him. If he wasn't himself, he could say he was embarrassed. Duke relaxed his stance just a bit, seeing their was no reason to attack just yet. His deep golden eyes spark with interested contrasting against his dull empty gaze. A loner? This close to his broken territory. It was almost impossible for him to believe.

"Who are you?" He posed his first question. His voice raspy and low for being unused for such a long time. Duke was almost surprised how strange his own voice sounded. The alpha took one step off the rock, his shoulder blade jugged out, tail lifted slightly above ground level. "Why are you so close to my territory?" He asked his second question, his eyes studying the female.

Aspen's feral posture softened when she saw the large brute lessening in his cold stance. His territory? she immediately knew what was going on, orbs snapping to the ground in respect to the alpha of Oak grounds. So, it wasn't a myth that wolves still ran under the canopy of ancient structures. "Aspen." The female replied confidently, her radiant green orbs raising to scan his tired frame.
"To be honest, I have no idea what I was doing here. Just looking for a place to rest." She replied with total honesty. The exhausted fae had traveled for days, causing her pads to be rubbed raw from the icy ground. Her muscles ached, and she must had been quite the scene with blood caked on her shoulders and legs from spars with other traveling rogues. The female remained standing defensively, ready for any surprise moves from the alpha.

His eyes narrowed on the female now dubbed Aspen. It was actually funny. His neighboring pack was called Aspen. With that thought, Duke step off the rock and continued to circled the female. She just sprout confidence just from her submissive stance. His mind wondered to his now appointed beta. Oh how they contrast. A wolfish smirk grace his features. They were like moon and sun. His Little Bird being the moon, of course.

"Well Aspen," He paused stopping just behind her flank cold eyes gleaming. His brown fur glow a soft gold in the sun light. "Are you looking for anything particular?" The alpha pose was that of dominance not daring to relax completely in front of this stranger. He observed her structure. Aspen was telling the truth. She looked exhausted guessing from her journey.

Duke wondered if she needed a pack. She was a loner after all, and he was due for more members after capturing his Little Bird. She would make a fine addition. His crazed mind quickly went over the possibilities and strategies for the she wolf. He for a while was momentarily distracted from the huanting ghost nipping at his heels.

Aspen listened quietly as the alpha circled her, a shiver running down her spine as she sensed his eyes burning through her form. She cleared her throat before speaking, not daring to turn and face him at the moment because of the unusual amount of tension that he carried. "Not at the moment." She began, audits swiveling back to listen to every movement that he was making. "I was originally trying to make my journey from here to the Oliran Valley for the beginning of spring." Aspen added, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "There was the option of joining a pack, but it looks like I've already stepped into that one." The female spoke, radiant jade orbs narrowing slightly.
She turned to the alpha suddenly, banner bristling. "So. Alpha of Oak pack, tell me. What is the status on your pack?" Aspen asked curiously. Where there was one alpha, there tended to be many more wolves that lurked behind the shadows of their leaders. The female had wanted to know what she was getting into, especially if it was a lifetime commitment. Was pack life well suited for her? She didn't exactly have the yes-sir disposition in her blood.

He took notice of her small shiver, pleasing him to no end. His ears flickers forward as the female turn sharply towards him, tail bristled. His empty gaze narrow on her structure. He did not approve of her stance at all.

"Well if you must know," Duke begins slowly, his mind working out the kinks of this situation. His head lifted to its full height. "There's only one other wolf in my pack. She is also appointed as the beta." He bore into her gaze, golden eyes eerie. "You are looking at what'd left from the old pack. A tragic event happen and soon I was the only survivor." Duke explained keeping it short and to the point. He rather keep everything a secret. They were his demons no one else's.

The female listened, cranium tilting slightly to the side. Of course she was curious, but chose not to pry. This wasn't her business anyways. "Now, would you tell me, do you value family, or followers?" Aspen questioned, awaiting his response. The corners of her mouth twisting upwards slightly in a soft grin, her orbs met his cold stare, feeling as if he was burning into her soul, chilling her bones. Aspen took in a deep breath. Was she making the right choice? What if she wasn't even ready to join a pack? The fae decided to take it all in one question at a time, then she would decide. She had to admit, the alpha was being rather patient so far, even though something about him seemed a bit... unnatural. Then again, when was the last time Aspen had met another wolf?
